Maryville municipal election results

The results are in from the municipal election in Maryville, and Jason McDowell and Matt Johnson have won the two open seats on the Maryville City Council.

Johnson, a first-time challenger for the Council, garnered 36.1% of the vote last night. As he prepares for his first term on the City Council, Johnson says he has a few short- and long-term goals.

McDowell, an incumbent and the current mayor, received 29.97% of the votes cast. He says he's excited to see some projects to completion in the next three years. McDowell, who has won his second consecutive term, has said that he will not seek a third one-year term as Mayor.

Johnson and McDowell will be sworn into the City Council during the meeting next Monday night. Incumbent Councilman Jerry Riggs was third behind McDowell with 24.39%, trailing McDowell by just 69 votes. Jason Sybert placed fourth receiving just under 9% of the votes cast Tuesday.
