St. Joseph School District hires superintendent

The St. Joseph School District has hired their next superintendent. According to a release from the school district, their Board of Education formally approved the hiring of Dr. Doug Van Zyl.

Van Zyl currently is the superintendent of the Fort Dodge, Iowa school district concluding his eighth year in that position. Prior to his time in Fort Dodge, Van Zyl served as the Harrisonville, Missouri superintendent for three years. He accepted a three-year contract with an annual salary of $210 thousand dollars for the first two years.

Van Zyl was one of three finalists for the position that included current Maryville Superintendent Becky Albrecht. Van Zyl will take over from current St. Joseph Superintendent Robert Newhart on July 1.
