Northwest President Jasinski testifies before Missouri House Subcommittee on Appropriations

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens' 2018 budget proposal includes more funding cuts to higher education, but the General Assembly is open to hearing other options.

Northwest Missouri State University President Dr. John Jasinski spent Tuesday in Jefferson City testifying before the House Subcommittee on Appropriations with other university presidents from around the state. Jasinski says his main point was about investing in education, not continuing to take from it.

He says state funding accounts for 30 percent of the university's budget, a number which would continue to decrease if the current budget proposal passes. Jasinski was the first president to testify on the importance of higher education Tuesday, but says the other university presidents who testified had a similar theme.

Jasinski says testimonies from other university presidents carried through Wednesday as well.
