Northwest Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety offers grants to reduce fatalities

Beginning March 1, the Northwest Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety will accept applications for grant funding towards reducing roadway injuries and fatalities in the 2019 fiscal year. Over the past four years, more than 50 agencies and programs have recieved nearly $200,000 from this grant for various projects. The Coalition's chairperson, Larry Stobbs Jr., says the key to receiving funding is staying relevant to Missouri's Blueprint for Safer Roadways.

Programs that have received funding from the Coalition in the past include Northwest Missouri State University's Safe Ride Home program, law enforcement programs like "Click it or ticket" and prom night patrols, or healthcare-related programs like safety fairs. Stobbs says that, while traditional programs like these are likely to be funded, it's also important to think outside the box.

Those interested in learning more about the Coalition can attend a meeting on March 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 3602 North Belt Highway in St. Joseph. There will be a grant workshop after the meeting from 3 to 4, which may be helpful to those new to the process.

The Blueprint for Safer Roadways is available at savemolives.com, and those interested in learning more about the grant application process can contact Chairperson Larry Stobbs, Jr. at 816-236-1474.
