Nodaway County welcomes wind farm

Officials from Tenasaka, an independent power producer based in Omaha, and Associated Electric Cooperative, based in Springfield announced this week they've signed a long-term power purchase agreement from a wind project in northern Nodaway County.

Tenaska has been working with the Nodaway County Commission and landowners in the county over the past year to help make the Clear Creek project a reality.

Nodaway County Presiding Commissioner Bill Walker says the project should be a boost to the county's economy. He saya the county commission had a couple of concerns they wanted answered by Tenaska before signing off on the project.

Tenaska officials say construction on the project is set to get underway in 2019 with 100 to 120 wind turbines to be operational by 2020. Tenaska and Associated Electric have signed a 25-year agreement for the Clear Creek project to supply power to Associated Electric.
