Missouri House Budget Committee considers Governor's proposed budget

This week, the Missouri House Budget Committee is hard at work ironing out the details of Governor Eric Greitens' budget proposals handed down earlier this year.

Included in the proposal were further cuts to state funding of higher education and continued cuts to public school transportation costs.

Some of the Governor's proposals were received negatively by legislators from both parties. As the Budget Committee gets to work, Rep. J. Eggleston, a Republican from Maysville, says it's important to emphasize that the proposed budget will not be the same as the final budget.

Education was one of four priorities for the Great Northwest Day delegation which traveled to Jefferson City this week. Lt. Gov. Mike Parson says it should be a priority, predicting a better budget situation for higher education in 2019.

Both lawmakers made their comments during the Great Northwest Day Celebration Tuesday evening in Jefferson City.
