Maryville R-II Board meeting details

The Maryville R-II Board of Education met in regular session last Wednesday.

Highlighting the agenda were several staffing changes for the 2018-2019 school year. The board approved adding paraprofessionals for the early childhood center and kindergarten levels, as well as adding another full-time paraprofessional for the current school year at Eugene Field Elementary School. Additionally, the board voted to change the part-time Eugene Field secretarial position to a full-time early childhood office manager position and changed the 2017-2018 full-time after-school site director position to a part-time position for the next school year.

The board also approved a number of recommendations for employment. In the current school year, Jenna Abbott and Cassandra Trader will take over as youth development workers, and Bridget Murkle and Breanna Dennis will take over as paraprofessionals at Eugene Field. Starting next school year, Michael Barbosa will teach math at Maryville High School, Jaclyn Smail will teach 7th grade math at Maryville Middle School, Victoria Hollar and Shelby Bush will take over as special education teachers at Eugene Field Elementary School, and Rosa "Maggie" Quintanilla will teach third grade at Eugene Field.

In addition, the board approved several reassignments for next year. Jennifer Stoll, the current Title I reading support teacher at Eugene Field, will move to first grade. Karen Jones, the current part-time building secretary at Eugene Field Elementary School, will take over as the office manager at the Early Childhood Center. Kenna Toombs, a full-time substitute at Eugene Field, will be a paraprofessional at the Early Childhood Center, and Wendy Miller, current special education teacher at Eugene Field, will also serve as a paraprofessional at the Early Childhood Center.

The board also approved contract extensions for all administrators in the district, approved Eugene Field assistant principal Kim Walker, fourth-grade teacher Joe Suchan, and Karen Jones as administrator, assistant administrator, and secretary for summer school in 2018.

Additionally, the board accepted resignations from high school softball assistant coach Avery Bailey, youth development worker Karen Jones, high school math teacher and volleyball assistant coach Patricia White, long-term substitute teacher Haylee Olberding, elementary Title I part-time teachers Teresa Jacoby and Melba Watkins, and elementary special education teacher Melanie Davidson, effective at the end of the school year. And, elementary paraprofessional Dustin Henggeler's resignation was accepted effective March 9.

In other news from the meeting, the board held a hearing on and accepted the 2018-2019 school calendar and adopted the Ready Math and iReady individualized assessments for the kindergarten through eighth grade math resources beginning next year.
