Maryville church has raised over $13,000 for African missionaries

The First United Methodist Church of Maryville is making a sizeable donation to an African charity.

Since November 2017, the church has raised $13,121 to aid Dr. Emmanuel Mefor and his wife, Florence, who are working as missionaries in Mutambara, Zimbabwe. First United Methodist Churchof Maryville's Director of Ministries Chris Komorech says the first $2,500 was sent to Mutambara through a Pennsylvania-based charity.

The rest of the funds, as well as any new donations that come in this year, will be earmarked to purchase and refurbish a sterilizing unit called an autoclave at the existing hospital in Mutambara. The church hopes to raise an additional $5,000 toward this goal.
