Missouri's deer and turkey hunting seasons end

Missouri's deer-hunting season and fall archery turkey hunting seasons both ended Jan. 15. Missouri Department of Conservation spokesman Joe Jerek says the deer hunting harvest was higher than last year.

That number breaks down into 135,891 antlered bucks, 30,538 button bucks, and 117,511 does. Howell County was the top county overall with 6,182 deer harvested, followed by Franklin County and Texas County.
The archery season ended the deer-hunting season, and Jefferson County was the top county for archery with 1,169 deer harvested. Jefferson was followed by St. Louis County and Franklin County. Jerek says the turkey harvest was similarly higher than it was last year.

Phelps County led the way with 73 turkeys harvested, followed by Texas County and Laclede County. Additionally, the MDC reports five firearms-related hunting incidents during the fall deer and turkey hunting seasons, all of which were non-fatal accidents. Three involved self-inflicted wounds, while two involved one hunter shooting another.
