Maryville R-II Board of Education meeting report

The Maryville R-II Board of Education met in regular session Wednesday night.

Part of the agenda was dedicated to creating a new position in the district for an Alternative Learning and Behavioral Specialist. Maryville R-II Superintendent Dr. Becky Albrecht says the position will focus on at-risk students. The new position is just one of several that the district will be hiring for within the next few months, as the board also accepted letters of resignation from third grade teacher Dustin Romans and seventh grade math teacher Brenda Ricks at the meeting.

The board also voted to reassign Randy Ward to the District Maintenance staff, Laura Tobin to the Eugene Field Elementary School preschool teacher position, Miranda Henggeler to the Eugene Field early childhood specialist position, and Dustin Piper to the intervention specialist position. Additionally, the board voted to hire Alyssa Carmichael as the evening custodian at Eugene Field, Heidi Moffat as the special education teacher at Maryville Middle School, and Chandra DeMott as the summer strength coach at Maryville High School. DeMott will start in the summer of 2018, while the others will take their positions in the 2018-2019 school year.

In other news from the Maryville Board of Education, there will be no formal election in April for the two open seats. Incumbent board members Elaine Wilson and Frank Grispino are the only individuals to file for the positions in the April election.
