City of St. Joseph renews federal WIC contract for 2018

The City of St. Joseph Health Department has renewed its contract with the federal Women, Infants, and Children program for fiscal year 2018.

The department has handled all WIC benefits in St. Joseph and Buchanan County for several decades, according to public information officer Stephanie Malita. WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children up to their fifth birthday based on nutritional risk and income eligibility. Malita says WIC also serves to educate those who are eligible for the program's benefits and lobbies for better working conditions for new mothers.

Anyone needing information on WIC services and benefits in Buchanan County can contact the City of St. Joseph Health Department by stopping by the office located at 904 S. 10th Street in St. Joseph, or by calling 816-271-4723.
