Hundreds of runners will converge in St. Joseph this weekend for the city's premiere racing event.

The inaugural St. Joseph Marathon gets underway Saturday morning as runners from Catawba, NC up to Portland, OR, and everywhere in between make the trek to the midwest.

In all, 25 states will be represented at the event that will begin and end at Civic Center Park in St. Joe.

More than just a marathon though, other race distances include half marathon, 10K, 5K and a relay.

"Certainly most people don't get out of bed every morning and think 'I'm going to run a marathon this year.' That's ok!" Brett Esely, director of the St. Joseph Sports Commision, said. "If you're not one that says 'I'm going to run 26.2 miles, there's a distance for everyone."

Brett Esely, the director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission, said the race and festivities at the finish line are for more than just the runners.

"Even if you're not running, we encourage people to come down to Civic Center Park and take part in the atmosphere. Cheer on the runners. These events come with vendor fairs, food, drink, live music, so a lot of reason to get involved on Saturday morning in St. Joseph even if you're not participating as a runner."

The marathon, half marathon and relay begin at 7am Saturday. The 10K follows at 7:30am, and the 5K at 7:45am.

Registration for any of the race distances is open through Friday. Sign up here.
