Stockyards Expressway Ramp 759 has closed

The ramp from Route 759, the Stockyards Expressway, in St. Joseph to northbound Interstate 229 has been closed. Traffic Operations Engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation, Adam Wood, says the closure came following an inspection of the ramp.

"Our crews found some critical deteoration along the bridge joint on that ramp.  So our plan - we were already going to close the double decker bridge next week - so we just closed that ramp in advance.  And the work will be completed next week and it will be reopened, should be June 28th when everything gets reopened."

Wood says work on the 229 double-decker bridge is part of routine maintenance for the structure.

"The bridge is definitely safe.  This is just a minor deterioration that is just a small piece of concrete that's come loose.  So the reason we actually closed the bridge is so that small pieces of concrete don't fall onto the other lanes of traffic.  Structurally the bridge is very sound.  We just have to make minor maintenance adjustments like this on occasion as the bridge continues to age."
