The St. Joseph Museum has received a $10,000 grant from Spire Energy. This grant was given to the St. Joseph Museum to create a children's learning, play and exploration area at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion. Public Relations Officer for the St. Joseph Museum Kathy Reno says the Museum applied for the grant to add more play area around the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion.

"Our director decided she would write the grant in hopes of getting some funding for doing more with lawn at they Wyeth-Tootle Mansion in St. Joseph.  The mansion itself takes up what would've been four lots and it has an enclosed iron fence that's original, very Victorian.  She decided it would be more welcoming if we did like a children's imaginarium where they could come and play, and make better use of the lawn."

Reno adds the new play area will have a few different themes.

"It's going to be hand-on. It's going to be right there on the ground.  They are hoping to keep it a little something for all ages but they are going to stick with the themes of nature, culture, architecture, and transportation."

A preliminary plan for the new play area has been laid out and construction should begin soon.
