Short term rentals discussed at City Council meeting

The Maryville City Council discussed the future of short-term rentals during their meeting earlier this week. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the council is reviewing city code amendments to allow for short-term rentals.

"..which is a new rental sharing economy that's usually by AirBnB, VBRO, some of the other new companies.  This is a discussion that occurred several months ago and has continued to planning and zoning and now the City Council.  But essentially this proposed code would allow it to be located in commercial districts as well as campus town overlay which is just east of the university.  And really discourage those in other areas of the community, but create a special permit process where somebody if they have a certain structure or a certain need that facilitates for a short term rental, City Council and Planning & Zoning can consider that."

A public hearing on short-term rental regulations will be held during the Maryville City Council's July 8th meeting.
