Second annual Everly Heritage Day this Saturday in Shenandoah

The Everly Brothers Childhood Foundation in Shenandoah, Iowa will host the second annual Everly Heritage Day Saturday to pay tribute to the music and legacy of Don and Phil Everly. Shenandoah was home to the Everly family from 1945 to 1952 where bothers Don and Phil would sing and play guitar on live local radio before they became the iconic duo. Marketing Director for the Shenandoah Chamber & Industry Association, Shelly Warner, says the day of events will start with an old fashioned pancake feed provided by Earl May Seed & Nursery Co. to also celebrate their 100th anniversary.

"So they are kind of joining forces with us and having kind of an old-fashioned pancake feed like they used to have back in the 20s and 30s and 40s in Shenandoah the nurseries and the radio station.  And that'll go from 8-11 and it'll be right in front of their headquarters building at 208 North Elm Street here in Shenandoah.  So free pancakes just like the old jubilee days."

Warner says the day will end with the Everly Brothers Experience concert and dinner at a local restaurant.

"Then at seven, we'll have the concert.  And then after the concert, everyone will head down to the Depot Restaurant where they'll be more music by the Minnahoonies starting about 9 o'clock or so.  And of course if you've never been to the Depot Restaurant, the whole restaurant is filled with memorabilia from the Everlys and other Shenandoah history.  So it's an interesting place to visit itself."

Saturday's schedule for the Everly Brothers' Heritage Day event in Shenandoah will also feature new museum displays, a new documentory, a radio history speaker and more.
