The Nodaway County Historical Society will be hosting an open house event to showcase the oldest house in Maryville. The property was built around 1849 by Caleb and Jerusha Burns. It is the oldest home in Maryville still standing on its original foundation. Coordinator Alice Hersh says the house is a charming place and hopes that visitors can appreciate the historical significance.

"The house has had numerous ownerships through the years. The Historical Society acquired in the mid 1970s and it's been painfully restored over the years.  It's been very well maintained and that's why it's still standing."

Nodaway County Historical Society members will be available to share stories with visitors about the home, the people who've lived there, and will also showcase artifacts and furnishings from the home. The event will be on June 9th, from 2-4:00 p.m. at the home's location at 422 West 2nd Street in Maryville.
