MODOT allowing 10% overload for trucks helping with flood relief

The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced an extension of an allowance for heavier than normal truckloads of rock, sand, and gravel to travel on Missouri highways in flood relief and for levee and other public infrastructure flood repair. Spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Transportation DeAnne Rickabaugh says this allowance is in affect for people in flooded areas and recovering from flood damage.

"MODOT has extended its waiver for 10% above the gross license weight of commercial motor vehicles moving sand, rock, and gravel through July 21st.  This waiver is in effect for those preparing for floods and recovering from floods."

Rickabaugh says there are some limitations to the waiver.

"The 10% above gross license weight waiver is for transportation of rock, sand, and gravel only.  This can only happen within the state of Missouri.  You cannot cross state lines.  We also ask that when crossing a bridge, the driver slows to 30 miles per hour and make sure to obey any posted bridge weight limits."

The waiver will remain in affect through July 21st. For more information on bridge closures or traveler information, visit modot.org
