The City of Moberly will be commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day by inviting the public to visit the War Memorial at Rothwell Park this weekend. Moberly Park and Recreation Director, Troy Bock, says with each passing generation it becomes more important to learn and understand our history.

"Remind people of the significance of the day, encourage them to go out and do research on just the importance of that operation.  It was actually a multiple-day operation but it was initiated June 6th.  It's just important that they understand the implication of that day, not only in terms of the broader WWII, but American and global history."

Bock says they will also be honoring Moberly native, General Omar Bradley, who played a pivotal role on D-Day.

"He was one of the most important military generals in U.S. history.  He was the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs.  He was the last 5-star general.  He is as remarkable as people like Eisenhower, but for Eisenhower's presidency.  It's important to view them in the same light as people like Eisenhower and understand their place in history."

A wreath has been placed on General Omar Bradley's statue to commemorate the anniversary.
