Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic will be held on August 16th

The 2019 Missouri Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic will be held on August 16th at the Civic Center in downtown St. Joseph. The event meets a significant need by providing free cleanings, fillings, and extractions to patients age 5 and older who might otherwise go without care.

Co-chair of the event, Dr. Tim Curry, says that between 850 to 1000 patients will be treated at this event.

"The people that come - there's no financial restraints or anything, whoever comes - is given free care and there's no reimbusement to any of the dental professionals or the staff or the volunteers.  All the money received in donations goes directly into patient care and to sponsoring this event."

Curry says that patients will undergo a dental screening with X-Rays taken and a treatment plan formed.

"It's not a full-service dental clinic, but it is a way of getting people that are in extreme need out of pain and get at least maybe one or two issues taken care of for them."

Curry also says the services at the event will be offered beyond Northwest Missouri.

"So it will go from the Iowa line out to northern Platte County and east to Chillicothe."

Patients treated do not have to be Missouri residents but the clinic is first come, first served. Patients are advised to arrive early and to be prepared for a full day with long wait times.
