MDC offers free kayaking classes in July

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be offering free kayaking classes in two sessions on Thurday, July 11th and Pike's Lake at the Poosey Conservation area northwest of Chillicothe in Livingston County. The first sesssion will be from 9 to 11 am and the second will be from 5:30 to 7:30. Spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Conservation Joe Jerek says MDC is offering these classes because of the variety of lakes and rivers Missouri has.

"Missouri has some great waters for canoeing, kayaking, floating, fishing, and everything else.  And kayaking is becoming an increasingly popular activity.  With that the Missouri Department of Conservation is going to be offering free kayaking classes."

MDC's class will focus on using simple kayaks that are paddled. Kayaks, paddles, and life jackets will be provided for participants. Staff will also have canoes in case participants also wish to try paddling canoes. This class is open to participants ages 12 and up. Space is limited for these classes. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website for more information.
