Bearcats compete in Miss Missouri

One current Northwest Missouri State University student and two Northwest graduates competed in Miss Missouri's Pageants this weekend.

Debrielle Patee-Merrill was first runner-up and earned a six thousand dollar scholarship Saturday night at the culmination of the Miss Missouri Scholarship Pageant in Mexico, Missouri. Patee-Merrill performed a lyrical dance during the talent portion of the contest, and her platform for the competition was "It Can Wait" focusing on the dangers of texting while driving. She is a senior geography major from Maryville, will serve as executive treasurer with Northwest's 2019-20 Student Senate, is a member of the Bearcat Steppers and the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.

Marissa Jarnagin, who recieved a bachelor's degree at Northwest in 2018, finished in the Miss Gateway St. Louis pageant's top 10. She performed a jazz dance during the talent portion and her platform was "Back to Basics" focusing on teaching residents to rewind to childhood lessons when dealing with life's challenges.

Angela Luna, a 2018 Northwest graduate, competed as Miss Texas County. Her platform focused on the One Love Foundation, and she performed a tap dance for the talent portion of the competition.

The Miss Missouri Scholarship Pageant is one of the largest providers of scholarships to young women in the state. This year, the organization awarded eighty-five thousand dollars in scholarships during its Miss and Oustanding Teen Programs.  The winner of this year's Miss Missouri is University of Missouri's journalism student Simone Esters.
