Albany Aldermen discuss budget and zoning for marijuana businesses

The Albany Board of Alderman met earlier this week to discuss city ordinance and medical marijuana businesses. City Administrator Derek Brown says there was an ordinance authorizing a software license to move to a cloud based storage for City Hall.

"We're going to be transitioning over the next several months to a cloud-based system. And then the other two ordinances had to do with fiscal year budgeting.  One was to amend our existing budget.  There was just a few items that required some adjustments for the fiscal year ends June 30th and the adoption of the new budget starting July 1."

Brown says the board also discussed the potential for implementing regulation on medical marijuana businesses.

"With the passage of Amendment 2 last November, we just want to get ahead of that.  Wanna get some things dealt with should a business ever consider coming to Albany.  Primarily land use and zoning considerations.  Where a business like this should be located, it's proximity to schools, churches, and daycares and so on."
