Albany Aldermen approve electric and water rate increase

The Albany Board of Alderman recently met and reviewed the city's water and electric rates. City Administrator Derek Brown says the Board approved an increase in the electric rates.

"That made a change in our fixed portion of our electric rates or the availability charge.  That's an effort that we've been undertaking for six or seven years to address what we percieve to be a deficiency in fixed price versus variable charges in our electric rates.  So we've added a dollar to the availability charge and made no adjustment to the per kilowatt hour charges.  So effectively every electric customer will see a one dollar a month increase."

Brown says the Board of Alderman also approved a two percent increase in the City of Albany's water rates which equates to a 66 cent increase in an average customers bill.
