News Brief

May 28, 2019Maryville, MO |  By: John Coffey

Severe weather expected this afternoon/evening

The KXCV/KRNW listening area is expected to see more severe weather throughout today. That's according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Sarah Atkins.

"Thunderstorms are expected to start developing this afternoon near the 1:00-2:00 time frame and extending into the evening.  Large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes are going to be possible as well this afternoon/evening.  Storms are going to continue through the night moving out in the morning.  The severe threat should deminish some in the overnight hours."

Atkins says today's forecast comes after an active Memorial Day weekend with several areas in northwest Missouri reporting damage from weekend storms.

"We had some wind damage reports in Maryville around 6 o'clock on Saturday, May 25th.  We had a report of some trees snapped in Bethany about an hour later around 7:00.  Also in Bethany, we had hail around one inch.  Saturday into Sunday, we did have a flash flood report in Trenton.  And then on Monday morning around five a.m., we did have a 60 mile per hour windgust in Stanberry."

Stay tuned to KXCV/KRNW throughout the day for further weather updates as the storm system moves through the region.
