KCP&L sends assistance to South Dakota

Electric and Gas Companies throughout the country have made their way to the Dakota's and Minnesota to assist utility companies dealing with the aftermath of a major storm system that moved through the area. Spokesperson for Kansas City Power and Light, Jeremy McNeive, says KCP&L is among the companies helping out.

"It's part of the mutual assistance program that runs nationwide to where electric companies will assist other electric companies around the country when major storms happen to help with restoration.  We have needed this time   to send 130 contract linemen to the South Dakota area to where we're going to be assisting Excel Energy out of Minneapolis."

McNeive says KCP&L benefited from similar assistance this past winter.

"I believe it was eight different companies out of 12 different states assist KCP&L when we had our major winter storm this winter when we had our second largest outage in the history of the company.  It's a great program.  Our contractors and sometimes our full-time employees are quick to act.  It's definitely a benefit to the customers."

The Nebraska Public Power District also sent workers to assist with the situation in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
