Dec. 12, 2018St. Joseph, MO | By: Noah Cooper
City of St. Joseph officials announced a contract has been signed to continue providing WIC (WICK) services for the 2019 fiscal year. Health Department Public Information Officer Stephanie Malita says WIC is a supplemental nutrition program that provides nutrition at no cost to participants.
"It provides services to pregnant women, to new mothers, infants, children up to the age of five. And it's based on nutritional risk as well as income eligibility. Primary services are health screenings, risk assessments, nutrition education, counseling, and breast-feeding promotion and referrals to other health care facilities and clinics."
Malita also says the program goes beyond just providing supplemental nutrition.
For more information or to apply for the WIC program visit the St. Joseph WIC office at 904 South 10th Street in the Patee Market Health Center.
