Water-sewer rates to be increased

The Maryville City Council approved an ordinance to increase the water/sewer rates in the city of Maryville at its meeting last night.
Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the increase is to keep up with increasing costs.

"This is something that was discussed in the FY19 budget process.  And routine increases in rates are required to meet our debt and bond covenant but also just continued improvements and maintenance in the system.  The water/sewer system is very costly to maintain.  It requires upkeep in rates.  It generates a $487,000 in additional revenue a year and again that's to meet the ongoing increased cost of maintaining they system and providing coverage for both water and sewer services."

The council approved a 10 percent increase in the water/sewer rates effective January 1st, 2019.
