Applications for Transportation Alternatives Program grants approved

The Maryville City Council held a special session to approve two applications for grants from the Missouri Department of Transportation's Transportation Alternatives program. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the applications are for the city as well as Northwest Missouri State University.

"The city is going to apply for the Torrance Street Trail Extension Project.  This would be on Torrance Street.  There are currently no sidewalks.  But bridging this gap from essentially West Walnut to South Munn.  This would allow for a connection piece in our trail system to essentially connect nearly 4.5 miles of uninterrupted offstreet trails for our trail system.  The other grant application is coming from Northwest Missouri State University for the 4th Street Pedestrian Connectivity Project.  This centers around extending the beautification that we've done up to 4th Street corridor.  So essentially the Fine Arts corridor wher you have 6-7 pedestrian crossings.  This would be a safety enhancement from a pedestrian standpoint.  And kind of reduce those crossings where it makes sense and improves the safety on campus."
