Pork product donation allows 28,300 meals to be provided

Triumph Foods of St. Joseph donated nearly 34,000 pounds of premium pork products to Second Harvest Community Food Bank of Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas. Communications Coordinator of Second Harvest Community Food Bank, Blake Haynes says Triumph Foods does two sizable donations each year.

Haynes points out that this donation provides thousands of meals.

"Nearly 34,000 pounds of premium pork products.  Basically that allows us to take that amount of food and provide over 28,300 meals back into northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas."

Haynes says this donation of lean, high quality pork products is a hard commodity to otherwise come by.

"It's amazing because they're such a hard commodity to come by if you think about it.  It is a more expensive product when it comes to grocery stores, right?  Those items are kind of scarce when it comes to those who are food insecure."
