November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month, and the Humane Society of Missouri is encouraging potential adopters to consider adding an older pet to the family. Humane Society of Missouri spokesperson Anne McLaughlin says there are several advantages to adopting an older pet.

"Let's take a puppy for example.  You're going to have house-breaking and training and may some of those undesirable behaviors like going potty inside, or nipping, or biting.  A lot of these senior dogs they are long past that puppy phase.  A lot of the times they are housebroken and may even have some training behind them.  So sometimes it's a lot easier for these guys to integrate them into a new house just because they are a little more laid-back.  They already know how to live inside a house already.  So it might make an easier transition into a home."
