Northwest Wellness Services receives grant for suicide prevention program

Northwest Misssouri State University's Wellness Services was recently awarded the Garret Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Program grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Adminstration. The grant for $306,000, will support Northwest's development of a prevention program called "Hope 4 All". The grant is designed to help college campuses construct infrastructure for suicide prevention. Its goal is to develop approaches to improve mental health services, reduce the impact of mental and substance use disorders in young adults, encourage people to seek help needed, and identify and treat those who may need help. Northwest has a foundation built around campus well-being. With this grant and the creation of this program, university officials hope it will help to prevent suicide and develop psychological well-being and resiliency.
