MADD Tie One On For Safety Campaign

The Mothers Against Drunk Driving Heartland chapter is kicking off their annual Tie One On For Safety Campaign with a media conference tomorrow in St. Joseph. Volunteer chapter leader Leann Lewis says Tie One On For Safety's goal is to increase awareness of drunk driving over the holiday season.

"What we're asking the community to do is to take a red ribbon for MADD and tie it in or on their vehicle as a pledge to never drink and drive.  As we approach the holiday season, we see an increase in drunk-driving crashes and injuries and fatalities.  So the idea behind it is to hopefully bring awareness so we have a safe and happy holiday."

The media conference will be held tomorrow at Troop H Headquarters located on 35-25 North Belt Highway in St. Joseph. Guest speakers include Lewis as well as Buchannan County Prosecuting Attorney Dwight Scroggins and Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Jake Angle. Community members can pick up a red ribbon after the media conference at 10 a.m. or by contacting the MADD office in St. Joseph.
