Eagle Days event to be celebrated in Mound City

The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting an event to celebrate its Eagle Days in Mound City early next month.
The Eagle Days event will take place December 1st and 2nd at Loess Bluffs National Wildlife Refuge near Mound City. News Services Coordinator with the Missouri Department of Conservation Joe Jerek says Eagle days is a good opportunity to get a rare wildlife experience.

"Here is Missouri, we have small numbers of bald eagles that are here throughout the year.  But again in winter time, thousands of them come south.  So it's pretty amazing to be able to be out in nature and see, not just even one or two, but often times dozens of these majestic birds swooping over water to catch fish and even bickering over fish, and just really what eagles do.  It's a pretty cool experience."

The Eagle Days events include live captive-eagle programs, exhibits, activites, videos, and guided spotting sessions.  The event in Mound City runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 1st and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 2nd at Loess Bluffs Wildlife Refuge. If you're unable to attend the event, the MDC encourages you to get out on your own to view the eagles. More Eagle Days events will take place around Missouri through the beginning of February.  For more information on the event in Mound City call 816-271-3100 and for more information on Eagle Days visit mdc.mo.gov .
