Bearcat Food Pantry moved to the Union

The Bearcat Food Pantry on the Northwest Missouri State campus has moved to the J.W. Jones Student Union. The reason for the move is to offer easier access to students with new hours from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Opened as the Pay it Forward Pantry in September 2016, the service had been located in the Material Distribution Center and was staffed by University Police. Executive Secretary of Student Affairs and Food Pantry Coordinator Sue Nickerson says the move was made because of a survey conducted by Janay Orange, a senior public relations major from Kansas City.

"Janay Orange is a student regent here at Northwest and she had done a survey and the students asked that the location be easier to access and be centrally located on campus.  So we found a location in the Union - which all the students know where the Union is - so we moved it to accommodate what the students wanted."

Food donations are accepted throughout the year in the Student Union, and monetary donations are accepted through the Office of University Advancement on the Maryville campus. Community members may find needed items and provide donations by visiting www.nwmissouri.edu/studentaffairs/foodpantry .
