Amercian Idol winner to perform in St. Joseph

This year's American Idol winner, Maddie Poppe, will be performing in St. Joseph Saturday evening at the East Hills Fifth Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony: A Country Christmas Celebration. Poppe says winning this year's American Idol competition was a great experience.

"The people on the show really treated us really well and gave us a lot of freedom and let us be ourselves.  And so I made a ton of friends while on the show who I feel will be lifelong friends."

Poppe is from the small town of Clarksville, Iowa in northeast Iowa and credits the support from her hometown for her success.

"These people aren't just jumping on the bandwagon now.  These are people who came to my shows when only five people showed up.  And had supported me and bought my CD when, you know.  These people are who believed in me before anybody.  They are true supporters.  Everyone in Clarksville, I think, is really excited for me and really supports me 100% and that feels really awesome to have a whole community behind me."

Poppie along with American Idol runner up Caleb Lee Hutchinson will perform Saturday evening at six o'clock at the Fifth Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the East Hills Mall in St. Joseph.
