A local educational foundation hopes to kick off the holiday season in style while raising funds for students in the community. Superintendent Becky Albrecht at Maryyville R-II says the day should be fun and is a good way to raise money to benefit the foundation.
"The Education Foundation is doing the 1st annual Festival of Trees as a fundraiser to support our teacher mini-grants and the Teacher of the Year program. It's really a fun afternoon. We'll start out the day between noon and 1 o'clock with a free-will donation soup luncheon and the proceeds from that go to our local music boosters. And that will be followed up at 1 o'clock (approximately 1 to 3) with a Christmas concert. We'll have a lot of different groups performing, small ensembles, soloists, middle school show choir - different groups than we might typically have during our winter concert. Every two to three songs or acts, we are going to sprinkle in a tree auction."
The Holiday Festival of Trees and Concert will take place Sunday, December 2nd. The auction proceeds will benefit the Maryville R-II Educational Foundation Classroom Grants Fund.
