63rd Annual Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree to be held Saturday in Clarinda

High School bands from the region will gather in Clarinda, Iowa tomorrow for the annual Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree.  Clarinda City Manager Gary McClarnon says the Band Jamboree is one of the biggest events of the year in the community.

"We will have 54 bands from throughout the states of Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska that will be competing, not only on the street marching band portion, but also on the field marching portion.  So we would love to have anyone that wants to come up this coming Saturday.  The parade starts at 9 o'clock.  The field show out at the high scholl starts at noon.  We'd love to have anyone who wants to come."

McClarnon says the band jamboree is also a big boost to the Clarinda economy every year.

"We will probably double the size of our city on Saturday.  We do have that many people that come and attend all the events that we have.  From an economic standpoint, the local stores do get very busy.  They do a lot of business on that day.  It's fantastic to have everyone here in town.  Yeah, it gets a little crowded once in awhile and you have to wait in lines, but it's well worth it."

Tomorrow's 63rd Annual Southwest Iowa Band Jamboree is Clarinda's longest run event and is co-sponsored by the Clarinda Chamber of Commerce, Clarinda Community Schools and the City of Clarinda.
