Brownville set for Freedom Celebration on July 4th

With Independence Day just on the horizon, one southeast Nebraska community is getting set for a day of fun and celebration for the holiday.

The Brownville Freedom Celebration takes place July 4 in Brownville, Nebraska. The Freedom Celebration honors Vietnam veterans for their service. It also offers family fun with activities including a 5k run/walk, a dog show, a children's bike decorating contest and breakfast at town hall provided by the Eastern Stars all happening before 10am. Brownville Freedom Day Committe spokesperson Jan Wright says the excitement continues with the parade through Main Street.

"Ten o'clock is the big parade, and we have a lot of entries in it," Wright said. "After the parade there is going to be a patriotic program, and lunch provided by the Nemaha Fire and Rescue."

Wright added that along with games there will also be rides and live music throughout.

"We'll start doing trolley rides and also horse and buggy rides. We have the original Rivertown String Band playing at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery. At 2pm we have the Southeast Community Band performing patriotic music."
