Missouri State Sen. Hegeman supports broad band internet in rural areas

The Missouri General Assembly finished its legislative session at the end of last month.

Two of the bills that made it out of the session are House Bill 1872 and House Bill 1880 which were designed to increase access to high speed broadband internet in rural areas.

House Bill 1872 will institute a grant program to install broadband internet service to incentivize companies to expand their broadband service. House Bill 1880 declares the Missouri legislature's intention to encourage the development of fiber optic infrastructure by electric cooperatives in rural areas.

Dan Hegeman, a Republican state senator from Cosby, says high speed internet is important to all Missourians.

The broadband bills are awaiting approval from the governor.
