Savannah man charged with 9 felonies related to shootings

A Savannah man is in custody following a domestic violence call in Andrew County last Wednesday night.

60-year-old Billy Lee Schildknecht was arrested and taken into custody after the dispute, during which he fired a gun into a home where his wife and mother-in-law were staying.

Sheriff Bryan Atkins says the couple had separated and Schildknecht was served with an order of protection. He says part of the dispute took place while the caller was on the line with dispatchers.

Medical personnel from the Atchison County Ambulance District treated the women in the house and eventually transported them to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for non-life threatening injuries. Atkins says Schildknecht was taken into custody that night.

At the conclusion of the investigation last Thursday, the Andrew County Sheriff's Office filed a total of 9 felony charges against Schildknecht, including two counts each of first degree domestic assault, first degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and one charge of violating an order of protection.

Schildknecht is being held in the Andrew County Jail without bond; no court date has been set at this time.
