MoDOT works to ensure child car seats are safe

A recent release from the Missouri Department of Transportation notes that car accidents are the leading cause of death among children in Missouri. As a result, MoDOT and the Department of Health and Senior Services are making sure the public knows about the different requirements for car seats for children. Highway Safety Director Bill Whitfield says that children are safer in car seats if the driver gets into an accident.

Whitfield also says it is best to buy car seats brand new due to unknown variables. For instance, a used seat might have been damaged in a previous accident.

Missouri child safety seat technicians can provide education and car seat inspection. To learn more or book an appointment, there is a list of car seat inspection stations and locations across the state that can be found at www.seatcheck.org
