Democratic challenger emerges for Missouri 12th District Senate seat

As the filing period for state races in Missouri ends tomorrow, a Democratic challenger has emerged for the 12th District Senate seat.

Incumbent Dan Hegeman, a Republican from Cosby will be running for his second and final four-year term in the Missouri Senate, is not currently set to face a challenge in the primary, but Terry Richard, a Democrat from Holt, has also filed for the seat.

This will be the first time the seat has had a Democratic challenger since 2006, when Maryville Republican Brad Lager defeated Democrat Jim Neely, and only the second time the seat has been contested since the turn of the century.

At this point, neither man will face an opponent in the August primary.
