11 days remain to file for state races in Missouri

With 11 days remaining in the filing period for state races in Missouri, some state legislators who won uncontested races in 2016 will have to work a little harder.

In District 1, incumbent Allen Andrews, a Republican from Grant City, will have a Democratic challenger for the first time since the 2014 election. Paul Taylor of Skidmore filed for the seat yesterday as a Democrat. So far, Andrews and Taylor are the only two people in the race.

District 39 will also have an election in November, just nine months after a special election to re-fill the seat. Republican incumbent Peggy McGaugh of Carrollton, who won the seat on Feb. 6 after her son, Representative Joe Don McGaugh, was appointed Associate Circuit Court Judge of Carroll County, will be facing off against Democrat challenger Rick Mellon of Lawson, who filed for his candidacy on Wednesday of this week. Her challenger from the February race, Ethan Perkinson, has not filed to run again.
