Three Bearcats on Bevo Francis Watchlist

A trio of Bearcats find themselves among the best that college basketball has to offer.

Senior guard Joey Witthus, sophomore forward Ryan Hawkins and redshirt freshman Trevor Hudgins were named to the Small College Basketball Bevo Francis Award Watchlist.

The Bevo Francis Award is annually given to the best player in NCAA Division 2, NCAA Division 3, NAIA, USCA and NCCAA basketball. Northwest Missouri State point guard Justin Pitts received the honor in 2017.

The watchlist highlights the top 100 small college basketball players in the country. The list will be trimmed to 50 on February 15, 25 players on March 15, and the finalists on April 6.

Witthus has been one of the best shooters in the country hitting 48.1-percent of this attempts this season. He leads Northwest with 19.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Witthus is also tops in the MIAA with 3.5 three-point field goals per game.

Hawkins has posted seven double-doubles this season. He's among the MIAA leaders with 17.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 59.9-percent from the field.

Hudgins has taken turns as a scorer and a distributor for Northwest Missouri State. He ranks ninth in the conference with 18.4 points per game, and leads the league with 6.2 assists per game. 

The Bearcats are off to a 16-0 start and ranked No. 2 in the NABC Coaches Poll.
