For the first time in the 2018-19 season, Northwest Missouri State men's basketball is the top team in the country.
The Bearcats moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 Tuesday after improving to 21-0, 11-0 MIAA over the weekend. Bellarmine dropped out of the first slot down to No. 3. The Knights suffered their first loss of the season Saturday to Southern Indiana snapping a 67-game home win streak.
Northwest reaches No. 1 for the third straight season. The 'Cats spent a total of 16 weeks in the top spot during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons combined. They won the NCAA Division 2 National Championship at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.
The Bearcats are on the road this week with games against Lindenwood Thursday and Lincoln Saturday.
