Bruder, Ahrens earn MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week honors

The MIAA is honoring a pair of Northwest athletes after Bearcat volleyball posted a statement win Saturday.

Maddy Bruder and Maddy Ahrens led Northwest (17-5, 9-2 MIAA) to a 3-0 road win over No. 9 Washburn who was entered the match with an unblemished record of 22-0.

Bruder was named MIAA Hitter of the Week and Ahrens was named MIAA Specialist of the week.

Bruder posted 10 kills and 22 digs in a 3-0 win over Emporia State to open the weekend, and the momentum carried over to Saturday night in Topeka. The senior from Firth, Nebraska finished with 15 kills and 15 digs in a win over Washburn.

Ahrens paced the 'Cats with an average of 13 assists and 3.83 digs in the six sets over the weekend. Ahrens contributed 40 assists, 10 digs and three service aces as Northwest handled Emporia. She came back with 38 assists and 13 digs in the upset victory over the Ichabods.

The Bearcats road swing continues Tuesday at Missouri Western. Then they head east Friday for a match with Lindenwood and Saturday against Central Missouri.
