Bearcats land at No. 1 in first set of Regional Rankings

After facing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation and earning quality MIAA wins over the past three months, Northwest Missouri State is seeing the benefit as the postseason nears.

The Bearcats (21-2, 13-2 MIAA) sit atop the first set of NCAA Central Region rankings released Wednesday afternoon.

The top eight teams from the eight different regions in the final rankings released on Selection Sunday (March 4) will receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Northwest’s résumé includes a win over Central Region foe Northern State, and the Bearcats also handed the only loss of the season to the No. 1 team in the NABC Coaches Poll, Lincoln Memorial.

The ‘Cats currently hold a 1.5 game lead in the MIAA standings over Washburn, and wins Thursday and Saturday will give Northwest a share of its fifth straight conference title.

The Bearcats host Pittsburg State Thursday evening at 7:30pm. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will begin at 7:10pm.
