The non-conference slate of games for Northwest soccer goes to a new level this weekend as the 'Cats are set for a showdown with the defending national champs.
The conference season doesn't start until later this month, but the Bearcats matchup with Central Missouri in a non-league match in Warrensburg Friday.
The Jennies won their first national title last fall, and are off to a 4-0 start this season.
Northwest head coach Mark Gordon says playing well and building confidence early will be vital in this match, and he expects a lot of positives to come from it.
"I think if we manage things early on and gain some confidence for the young players, and to know what a national champion or a previous national champion plays like, that's the standard. So I think however we come out of it will be a great learned lesson."
After Central Missouri Friday, Northwest hosts Missouri Western at Bearcat Pitch on Sunday in another match that won't count against the league standings.
