More Missourians buckle up

According to a recent survey by the Missouri Department of Transportation, more Missourians are making the choice to buckle up.

Sixty-five percent of Missouri's traffic crash fatalities involve an unbelted driver or passenger. Missouri's seat belt usage is now up to 84 percent which is a 2.6 percent increase from 2016. MoDOT Highway Safety Program Administrator Scott Jones says the national average for seat belt usage is 90.1 percent.

Jones says occupants of sports utility vehicles and vans have the highest rate of seat belt usage at 86.5 percent, while pickup truck drivers have the lowest usage rate at 69.3 percent.
